TYPES OF TRIBAL TRUSTS

Two types of Tribal Trusts are in common use by Native American communities today.  They are classified according to whether the trust accounts are kept separately for each individual, or are co-mingled for a group of individuals. When kept separate, they are referred to as INDIVIDUALIZED TRUST ACCOUNTS, and may be depleted by the individual and terminated prior to their natural ending date.  When co-mingled, they are referred to as GENERAL BENEFIT TRUST ACCOUNTS, and are available for distribution to the individuals in the defined group until the entire fund is depleted.
